St. Mary The Virgin Church

St. Mary The Virgin Church

A church has stood on this headland since the 12th Century.  The present church, which, was built in 1835.  Our  tower  acts as a Waymark to the sea faring community. St Mary’s  was re-ordered  thirty years ago after a huge fire. Come and see the spectacular East window was commissioned at that time.

Traditional  church music is very important here.  The present grand organ comes from the university church in Oxford and is now undergoing major renovation.

The church is in constant use by musicians, artists, schools. We play host to a wide range of musical events throughout the year. A SPARK worker ( Spirituality and Arts ) helps to organise events to help us think about God through the creative arts.
